Fuck This.
Pretty sure that’s how many of us are feeling today.
In their Dobb’s v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision overturning Roe v. Wade, the extremist conservative justices on the Supreme Court, representing a minority of Americans, have– for the first time in our nation’s history– taken away a constitutional right.
Now or very soon in 20 states (and counting), people who can experience pregnancy can no longer access legal abortion and no longer have bodily autonomy. This will disproportionately impact those who already face barriers to healthcare access, particularly Black, Indigenous, and other people of color, trans and non-binary individuals, and low-income and rural individuals among others.
And today’s decision also lays the groundwork for reversing marriage equality, access to birth control, and the broader right to privacy upon which these other rights stand.
Seriously, Fuck This.
For those frustrated and looking to take immediate action
Donate to support reproductive rights in states where it is under threat like Michigan and Kansas
Help spread the word about Plan C at-home abortion pills with stickers
And if it wasn’t obvious before, abortion – along with marriage equality, access to contraception, and the right to privacy– are most definitely on the ballot for this year’s midterms.
At Generation Data, we have taken great pride over the last several years in training the data and tech staff who already are or go on to be leaders with organizations on the front lines of fighting for reproductive justice. We will continue to do this work with renewed purpose and focus as we head towards November. And on an internal level, we are looking at how we can better support current and future staff living in states where abortion is now illegal.
We encourage you to take time for yourself, to support your family and friends through this difficult time, and to fight like hell these midterms however you best see fit.
In solidarity,
Nancy & Matt
